Forego had only one good leg during much of his racing career and carried massive weight. No horse has to carry that type of weight now.

any hope of some Ruffian vids? I have been looking for the tv coverage for the Match race for ever, and cant find it... any help?

Oh, I'm with you on the big guy completely. He's in his own galaxy as far as I'm concerned; the thing many don't get is that there are many other inspiring horses, like Forego, that are very compelling as well. I thank you for coming to take a look!

i agree, it's good to stay away from the "who's the greatest" syndrome. it can create bad blood for no real reason when we all just love these magnificent athletes for their individual qualities. i love man O' war. and will put him right up there. however, the first horse race i ever saw was Secretariat's ky derby. and the memory gives me tears and goosebumps. I was born loving horses and i could not have started off better than watching Secretariat's perfection. i was forever imprinted.

I have the proper respect for Man o' War, make no mistake. I don't feel that he was the the greatest, but that's not really important, and it's not a knock on him at all. The debate on those two horses gets so ridiculous that I try, whenever possible, to stay away from it publicly. Would be nice if that topic didn't ignite such nastiness, but it does, and it can keep people from commenting. I don't like that, and that's why I try, with some exceptions, to avoid it.

Man O' War raced against the best of 3 year-olds anywhere around during his time and he stomped them hard. He will always be an immortal legend and revered as perhaps the greatest horse. Personally, I consider Secretariat the greatest for many reasons, I respect your opinion. Without Man O War, we would not be having the whos the greatest? debates, which keep us all alive and well in the immortal ghosts of horse racing past! Man O War, we all love you, the original Big Red!

gfn02 is right,Forego was HUGE,that was why he didn't start a race until he was a 3 yr old. He needed time to grow into his big frame. He didn't really start to show what he would soon become until the summer of his 3 yr old year. What is amazing is the fact that he wasn't a sound horse, his ankle(s) were really bad. With top notch trainers Sherrill, and later Whitely nursed him thru all those championship years. Whitely was appalled when he first saw Forego's legs,he couldn't believe it.

I do not agree.

Hmm, I dissagree. Man o' War was absolutely OUTSTANDING. By far the best race horse there ever was, and probably ever will be. The way he could race two days apart and win the way he did, and not even being let out fully. Amazing... Just amazing...

Send me a private message in my YT inbox, or hit me up on Yahoo messenger (gfn02ATyahooDOTcom) and we can chat about it. I very much appreciate your compliment. As soon as I can get some things all squared away, there will be more videos on the way. Don't forget to send me a message or contact me on instant messenger. We'll chat about this stuff if you'd like.

i meant to say if he had to race, these other horses that he would have had equal competetion.

by the way, thankyou for all of your videos. you do a great job.

gfn02, i like man o war but he had to race citation, fager and spectacular bid i can assure you that he would not have such a great record. well. i am asumming. what is your opinion, no doubt all of these horses are the greats of racing.

Yes, he was 17.2 or 17.3, one of the tallest and heaviest thoroughbreds to win Horse of the Year, maybe THE tallest and heaviest.

Oh wow, was he really over 17 hands?

I misinterpreted nothing; it is not my responsibility to assume that you wouldn't know that Forego is one of the all-time greats, and easily one of the top three or so geldings that has ever raced. It's not as if it's hard to find stuff on Forego; it's all there for anyone to watch and/or read. You watched the 76 MC, and I've seen you comment cf's vids, too. He has a literal plethora of Forego races to pour through. Anyone with a computer can find them, including you. No beef here.

Unfortunately, you misinterpreted my comment. I said "may" because I obviously don't know his racing record as well as you:-)

You're entitled to your opinion. You're preachin' to the choir about SECRETARIAT. He was indeed awe-inspiring. However, I again have serious trouble with you qualifying the term great when considering applying it to Forego ("I'm not saying he MAY not be a great horse [emphasis added by me]). There's no ifs, ands, buts, or MAYS about it: Forego WAS a great thoroughbred. To say anything other than that is to deny reality. It's ok you're not fascinated by him. Not ok to suggest Forego isn't great.

Ok...I just watched the race. I'm not saying he may not be a great horse...but HOW Secretariat won his races...well, sorry but this race wasn't even on the same par. Secretariat's wins were absolutely the most awe-inspiring. The only other horse I'm truly fascinated with is Man O' War. I just think they're in a completely different league than all other race horses. There are other race horses I also like:-) And, yes, I'm only fascinated with the 2 greatest. Especially Secretariat.

You're correct. Forego was one of the biggest, if not THE biggest, Champion thoroughbreds ever. He was massive. That height actually worked against him; he was always beset with ankle trouble because of his tremendous height/weight. Thanks for taking a look!

Look, I'll put my fascination with SECRETARIAT up against anyone on the planet, but I categorically disagree with that statement you made ("No horse is even remotely interesting to watch as Secretariat"). For instance, have you ever watched Forego's courageous come-from-behind win in the 1976 Marlboro Cup to win his third consecutive Horse of the Year award? Yes, SECRETARIAT was a bright light streaking across the sky, but there are other fascinating horses as well. SECRETARIAT wasn't alone.

Awesome vid of an awesome horse. And a big horse too. I think he was over 17 hands.

No horse is even remotely interesting to watch as Secretariat...Nothing again will ever reach his level...Not even humans...He was in his own league. No comparison.

i just got his breyer!

There's more to come; stay tuned!
